Choroidal neovascularization (CNV) is abnormal choroidal vessels growing through Bruch membrane under the retina/RPE, causing subretinal hemorrhage, exudation, and scarring. It occurs in age-related macular degeneration, pathologic myopia, and ocular histoplasmosis. Clinical: central blurred vision/metamorphopsia/subretinal hemorrhage. Treatment: intravitreal anti-VEGF (first-line); photodynamic therapy for selected types; observe if extrafoveal.
Central blurred vision; metamorphopsia; subretinal hemorrhage/fluid on OCT; AMD/myopia history
Bruch-membrane disruption allows choroidal vessels to grow under retina, leaking/bleeding.
Intravitreal anti-VEGF; photodynamic therapy for selected types; observe if extrafoveal
Anti-VEGF monitoring; Amsler self-monitoring in AMD.
It is recommended to visit the Ophthalmology department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
