Sympathetic ophthalmia is a bilateral granulomatous panuveitis occurring after a penetrating ocular trauma or surgery to one eye (the exciting eye), typically 2-12 weeks later, causing vision loss in both eyes. It is a T-cell-mediated autoimmune response to uveal antigen. Treatment: urgent high-dose systemic corticosteroids and immunosuppression; enucleation of a non-seeing exciting eye within 2 weeks of injury prevents it; long-term follow-up.

Urgent high-dose systemic steroids/immunosuppression; early enucleation of non-seeing exciting eye prevents it
Enucleate non-seeing traumatized eye within 2 weeks; long-term follow-up.
