Optic atrophy is pallor of the optic disc resulting from prior optic-nerve injury (optic neuritis, ischemia, compression, glaucoma, hereditary). Clinical: pale disc with corresponding visual-field/color-vision defect. There is no reversal of established atrophy. Treatment: identify and treat the underlying cause (compressive tumor/glaucoma); low-vision aids; visual rehabilitation.
