Duane Retraction Syndrome

眼科

Common symptoms

眼球偏斜、衣玉品、斜视、眼球突出、复视

The pathology of disease

Duane retraction syndrome is a congenital cranial dysinnervation disorder (CN VI nucleus/nerve dysgenesis with aberrant CN III innervation of lateral rectus), presenting with limited abduction, globe retraction and palpebral fissure narrowing on adduction. Most are type I (limited abduction). Treatment: conservative observation; strabismus surgery (recession, no resection of the affected muscle) for abnormal head posture or significant deviation; avoid resection of the affected lateral rectus.

Common Symptoms

Limited abduction; globe retraction/palpebral narrowing on adduction; abnormal head turn; congenital

Causes and Pathogenesis

CN VI dysgenesis with aberrant CN III innervation of lateral rectus causes co-contraction and retraction.

Treatment

Observe; recession surgery for abnormal head posture/deviation; avoid resection of affected LR

Preventive Measures

Early diagnosis; manage head posture.
