Color blindness is defective color vision, most commonly congenital red-green deficiency (X-linked recessive, deuteranomaly/protanopia) or less often blue-yellow/tritan, and achromatopsia; acquired causes include optic-nerve/retinal disease. There is no cure for congenital forms. Treatment: color-vision testing; vocational counseling; investigate acquired causes; special lenses may enhance discrimination but do not restore normal color vision.
Difficulty distinguishing red/green; normal visual acuity; congenital (male predominance) or acquired (optic/retinal disease)
Congenital cone-pigment gene defect (X-linked) or acquired optic/retinal disease impairs color discrimination.
No cure; vocational counseling; investigate acquired causes; special assistive lenses
Screen children; genetic counseling.
It is recommended to visit the Ophthalmology department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
