Sinusitis is inflammation of the paranasal sinuses (maxillary/frontal/ethmoid/sphenoid), either acute (viral/bacterial, <4 weeks) or chronic (>12 weeks), presenting with nasal obstruction, purulent discharge, facial pressure/pain, and reduced smell. Treatment: acute viral - supportive care; acute bacterial - amoxicillin-clavulanate; chronic - intranasal corticosteroids; saline irrigation; treat allergy/polyps; antibiotics if acute-on-chronic; endoscopic sinus surgery if refractory/mass/structural.
