Amoebae are single-celled protozoa of the subphylum Protozoa, characterized by pseudopod-based movement and binary fission. Entamoeba histolytica causes intestinal amebiasis and occasionally invades the skin to cause cutaneous amebiasis.
Granuloma; purulent discharge; ...; abscess
(1) Etiology: The common pathogen is E. histolytica, the only pathogenic human amoeba. Cutaneous amebiasis can arise by: 1. Metastasis from intestinal amebiasis and hepatic amebic abscess. 2. Contact with amebic cysts through skin lesions or other skin damage. 3. Amebic allergic skin eruptions presenting as nonspecific lesions such as eczematous, pruriginous, or urticarial eruptions, skin itching, acne, rosacea-like lesions, or mucosal melanosis; no amoebae are found in these lesions. (2) Pathogenesis: The pathogen cannot invade intact skin; it must enter through abrasions, cracks, cuts, or surgical wounds to cause skin lesions. Once inside, the pathogen's proteolytic enzymes cause widespread lytic necrosis of host tissue, forming abscesses or ulcers.
Drug therapy, supportive therapy
Health education: Prompt and proper treatment of amebic dysentery or liver abscess is the key prerequisite for preventing cutaneous amebiasis. In endemic areas, strengthen health education, eliminate fly and cockroach breeding sites, and manage water sources to prevent primary infection. Improve nutrition and physical fitness. Pay attention to dietary and environmental hygiene, strengthen fecal management, and prevent fecal contamination of food and water. Daily prevention: Pay attention to transmission between sexual partners; boil underwear for disinfection; spouses, partners, and cohabitants should undergo examination and necessary treatment.
It is recommended to visit the Infectious Diseases department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
