Ocular Motility Disorder

神经内科

Common symptoms

对光反应消失、瘫痪、上睑下垂、凝视麻痹、斜视、弹钢琴指(趾)征、颅内压增高、前庭反射消失、复视、眶上裂综合征

The pathology of disease

Ocular motility disorder is limitation or abnormality of eye movement, due to extraocular-muscle/nerve palsy (CN III/IV/VI), restrictive causes (thyroid orbitopathy, orbital fracture, fibrosis), or mechanical adhesion. It causes diplopia. Treatment: investigate the cause (orbital imaging, thyroid function, neurology); prism/occlusion for symptomatic diplopia; strabismus surgery once stable; treat underlying thyroid/orbital disease.

Common Symptoms

Limited eye movement; diplopia; by cause (palsy/restrictive/mechanical); abnormal head posture

Causes and Pathogenesis

Palsy or restriction of extraocular muscles limits movement, causing diplopia.

Treatment

Investigate cause; prism/occlusion; treat thyroid/orbital disease; strabismus surgery once stable

Preventive Measures

Investigate cause; treat thyroid orbitopathy.
