Renal abscess

肾内科

Common symptoms

胃区包块、发烧、血尿、腰痛伴肾区叩击痛、尿频伴尿急和尿痛

The pathology of disease

A renal abscess is a pus-filled capsule from pyogenic destruction of renal parenchyma with complete loss of function, common in upper urinary obstruction, usually developing from acute pyelonephritis with necrosis. Diagnosis relies on abdominal ultrasound and CT; diet should be easy to digest, high in calories and vitamins.

Common Symptoms

Epigastric mass; fever; hematuria; lumbar pain with renal percussion tenderness; frequency with urgency and dysuria

Causes

A renal abscess usually develops from acute pyelonephritis progressing to necrosis forming a pus cavity; diabetes and infectious stones are common predisposing factors. Occasionally a secondarily infected renal cyst forms one. Subcapsular abscess may progress to perinephric abscess. Pathogens are usually gram-negative bacilli; S. aureus abscess may follow staphylococcal bacteremia elsewhere.

Treatment

Medication, supportive treatment

Prevention

Treat urinary infection and obstruction promptly; control diabetes.
