Chronic renal insufficiency, also called chronic renal failure (CRF), is chronic progressive parenchymal damage from various causes causing obvious renal atrophy and loss of basic function, clinically a syndrome of retained metabolites, water/electrolyte/acid-base imbalance and systemic involvement, also called uremia. Main causes: primary glomerulonephritis, chronic pyelonephritis, hypertensive arteriolar nephrosclerosis, diabetic nephropathy, secondary glomerulonephritis, tubulointerstitial disease, hereditary kidney disease, long-term analgesics and heavy metals. In the compensated phase Scr is 133-177 umol/L; with large reserve, excretion still meets needs and symptoms are absent.
Water-sodium retention; metabolic acidosis; hematuria
Primary glomerulonephritis, chronic pyelonephritis, hypertensive nephrosclerosis, diabetic nephropathy and tubulointerstitial disease are the main causes.
Diet, medication, dialysis when needed
Treat primary kidney disease early, avoid nephrotoxins, and control blood pressure, glucose and proteinuria.
It is recommended to visit the nephrology department; before the visit you may first book an appointment and connect with experts through this platform.
