Nephropathy refers to various renal disorders. A dynamic balance between organs and between internal and external environments maintains health; pathogenic factors that disturb this balance and affect the kidney cause kidney disease. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is chronic structural/functional renal damage over 3 months, including abnormal GFR, abnormal blood/urine composition or imaging, or unexplained GFR decline (<60 ml/min·1.73m2) over 3 months. Causes include primary/secondary glomerulonephritis, tubular injury and renovascular disease; CKD is staged by GFR into 5 stages; early intervention reduces complications and improves survival.
