Leukemia cutis is a malignant white-cell neoplasm; immature WBCs diffusely infiltrate marrow and appear abnormally in blood; also widely infiltrate liver/spleen/nodes and other organs including skin. Clinically specific lesions: macules, papules, plaques, nodules, ecchymoses, palpable purpura. Histology: atypical WBCs perivascular/periglandular dense or diffuse infiltrate, with subepidermal Grenz zone. Diagnosis based on predominant cell type + infiltration pattern + clinical/hematologic correlation; morphology alone insufficient; cytochemistry/IHC needed to determine origin.
Genital ulcer; papule; nodule; gingivitis
(1) Etiology: unknown. (2) Mechanism: unknown. Two types: (a) myelocytic/granulocytic leukemia; (b) AML ~50% of acute myeloid leukemias, but skin infiltration rare (5/877 AML cases).
Drug, radiation, supportive therapy
