Secondary Myelofibrosis

血液科

Common symptoms

闫铁、腹胀、晋波、乏力、消瘦

The pathology of disease

Secondary myelofibrosis is marrow fibrosis caused by an identifiable underlying disease rather than primary idiopathic myelofibrosis. Causes: metastatic carcinoma (especially breast/prostate), infection (tuberculosis, histoplasmosis), radiation, toxins (benzene), SLE, osteosclerosis. Clinical: leukoerythroblastic anemia, teardrop RBCs, splenomegaly from extramedullary hematopoiesis; treat the underlying cause.

Common Symptoms

Fatigue; splenomegaly; leukoerythroblastosis; teardrop cells; underlying disease signs

Causes and Pathogenesis

Underlying disease (metastatic tumor, infection, toxin) causes marrow-reticulin/collagen fibrosis through cytokine-driven fibroblast proliferation, impairing hematopoiesis and triggering extramedullary hematopoiesis.

Treatment

Treat underlying cause; supportive care; transfusions; manage complications

Preventive Measures

Prompt treatment of underlying infection/malignancy; avoid toxins/radiation.

Department to Visit
