Hypermagnesemia

普外科

Common symptoms

血压下降、呼吸衰竭、呼吸抑制、食欲不振、腹胀、心动过缓、便秘、心律失常、恶心

The pathology of disease

Hypermagnesemia is elevated serum magnesium, almost always in renal insufficiency or excess magnesium administration (antacids/laxatives/IV magnesium). Clinical: neuromuscular depression (weakness, areflexia), hypotension, bradycardia, ECG prolongation, and respiratory depression/arrest at severe levels. Treatment: stop magnesium, IV calcium gluconate for cardioprotection, IV fluids/diuresis, dialysis in severe renal failure.

Common Symptoms

Nausea; weakness; areflexia; hypotension; bradycardia; respiratory depression; ECG changes

Causes and Pathogenesis

Renal failure or excessive Mg intake overwhelms excretion; magnesium depresses neuromuscular transmission and cardiac conduction.

Treatment

Stop magnesium; IV calcium gluconate; IV fluids/diuretics; dialysis in severe/renal failure

Preventive Measures

Use magnesium cautiously in renal failure; monitor Mg levels.
