Renal artery embolism

普外科

Common symptoms

创伤、肾动脉硬化、血尿、呕吐、突然出现剧烈的腰痛、低热、恶心

The pathology of disease

Renal artery embolism includes renal artery emboli and thrombosis. Being rare and nonspecific, it is easily misdiagnosed or delayed; it can cause hypertension and acute renal failure. Under certain conditions the artery or branches locally thrombose or are embolized; blocking a large artery causes renal ischemia and even infarction.

Common Symptoms

Trauma; renal arteriosclerosis; hematuria; vomiting; sudden severe flank pain; low fever; nausea

Causes

Spontaneous: renal arteriosclerosis, aortic/renal aneurysm, fibromuscular dysplasia, renal arteritis (polyarteritis nodosa, Takayasu, thromboangiitis, syphilis), blood disorders (antithrombin III deficiency, sickle cell), metabolic disease (familial hypercholesterolemia, homocystinuria). Cardiac emboli: atrial fibrillation, prosthetic valves, post-MI mural thrombus, left atrial myxoma.

Treatment

Anticoagulation, revascularization, embolectomy

Prevention

Control cardiac sources of emboli and atherosclerosis.
