Arachnoid cyst is a benign, congenital, CSF-filled cleft within the arachnoid membrane, most often in the middle cranial fossa. Most are asymptomatic incidental findings. Large cysts may cause headache, focal deficits, seizures, or hydrocephalus in children. Treatment: observation/serial imaging if asymptomatic; surgical fenestration or shunting if symptomatic or causing hydrocephalus.
Often asymptomatic; headache; seizures; focal deficits; hydrocephalus in children
Congenital splitting of the arachnoid membrane forms a CSF-filled cyst; mass effect when large.
