The pathology of disease

Hepatitis D is HDV (defective virus) with HBV coinfection; requires HBV. Overlap infection worsens liver damage → chronic active hepatitis/cirrhosis/severe hepatitis. Transfusion/blood products; similar to HBV.

Common Symptoms

Jaundice; fatigue; hepatomegaly

Causes

HDV in HBsAg+ patients.

Treatment

Peginterferon; treat HBV

Prevention

HBV vaccination.
