Tricuspid stenosis is narrowing of the tricuspid valve orifice (usually rheumatic, often with mitral disease), causing right-atrial hypertension and systemic venous congestion. Clinical: raised JVP with a prominent a-wave, hepatomegaly, edema, and a tricuspid diastolic murmur. Treatment: diuretics/salt restriction; treat accompanying left-sided valve disease; surgical commissurotomy or valve replacement for significant symptomatic stenosis.
Systemic venous congestion/edema; raised JVP with a-wave; hepatomegaly; tricuspid diastolic murmur
Rheumatic narrowing of the tricuspid valve obstructs right-atrial outflow, causing venous congestion.
Diuretics; treat left-sided disease; surgical commissurotomy/replacement if significant
Treat rheumatic heart disease; secondary prophylaxis.
It is recommended to visit the Cardiology/Cardiac-surgery department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
