Habitual abortion

Habitual abortion is 3 or more consecutive spontaneous abortions, often at the same gestational month, with a course like ordinary abortion. Causes: luteal insufficiency, hypothyroidism, uterine malformation/hypoplasia, intrauterine adhesion, relaxed cervix, fibroids, chromosomal abnormalities, autoimmunity. Late habitual abortion is often from an incompetent internal os, usually due to repeated curettage injuring the cervix, a few from congenital cervical anomaly. After mid-pregnancy, increased amniotic fluid and fetal growth raise intrauterine pressure.
