Nephrotic syndrome is a group of syndromes from many causes, characterized by proteinuria, hypoproteinemia, hypercholesterolemia and marked edema. The structural basis of glomerular filtration is the filtration membrane with three layers: endothelial cells, basement membrane and visceral epithelial cells; endothelial fenestrae (50-100 nm) block cells but not plasma protein; the basement membrane has a microfiber mesh with 4-8 nm pores.
