Dystocia

Dystocia means that due to various causes, the opening phase (first stage), especially the fetal expulsion phase (second stage), is markedly prolonged; without assisted delivery the mother has difficulty or cannot deliver the fetus. Mismanagement not only causes maternal genital tract disease affecting future fertility but may threaten mother and fetus.

Common Symptoms

Intracranial hemorrhage; birth canal laceration; osteomalacic pelvis; osteomalacia; flat pelvis; breech; weakness; midpelvis contraction

Causes

Abnormal powers, passage, or passenger.

Treatment

Oxytocin, instrumental/cesarean

Prevention

Labor monitoring.
