In China, people often colloquially call in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) a "test-tube baby". In fact, IVF is a special technique in which eggs and sperm are taken out of the body and allowed to complete fertilization in a controlled external environment; the early embryo is then transplanted into the woman's uterus, where it develops into a child. Babies produced by IVF are called test-tube babies, and they still grow in the mother's uterus. IVF and embryo transfer are essentially the same as "test-tube baby technology".
Vaginal bleeding; abdominal distension; abdominal pain; chest tightness; constipation
In infertility treatment, IVF is paired with embryo transfer: after the fertilized egg divides under artificial incubation to reach 8–16 blastomeres, it is manually transferred into the secretory-phase uterus for implantation. The combination of IVF and embryo transfer is the so-called "test-tube baby" technique, which will play an increasing role in infertility treatment. Assisted IVF means taking sperm or eggs out, processing or culturing them into embryos, and then implanting them back into the body, overcoming the barriers of traditional treatment; the best-known example is IVF itself.
Western medicine treatment
1. Before transfer: (1) During ovarian stimulation, do not stay up late—poor sleep harms follicle and endometrial growth; keep early hours. After menstruation ends, soak feet in water above the calves for 30 minutes until the night before transfer. (2) Maintain a happy, stable mood; avoid anger, tantrums, and shouting. Modern medicine has shown that emotion strongly affects pregnancy: under anxiety and stress, the adrenal glands secrete a hormone that can harm embryos, which is why some people conceive unexpectedly once they relax. 2. After egg retrieval: (1) Ask the lab doctor about egg and sperm status and whether ICSI is needed. (2) Do not lift heavy objects, avoid alcoholic drinks, and avoid painkillers or sedatives; take medication on schedule per doctor's orders. 3. After transfer: (1) Stay in bed for 48 hours after arriving home; you may lie flat, on your side, or prone, but do not get up; you may sit propped in bed at an angle under 45°. (2) Do not bathe within 48 hours. (3) Avoid strenuous exercise—no jogging or cycling—but slow walking is healthy and safe. (4) Do not overwork. (5) Rest more and sleep enough. (6) Stay calm and avoid over-anxiety about the outcome. (7) If abnormal abdominal pain, distension, or vaginal bleeding occurs, contact the clinic immediately for miscarriage-prevention care. Whether to lie flat or take leave after embryo transfer is up to the expectant mother, as these do not affect success rate; rest as much as possible, avoid straining during bowel movements, wait until you feel the urge, and take folic acid to support normal embryo development.
It is recommended to visit the obstetrics department; before the visit you may first book an appointment and connect with experts through this platform.
