Nipple discharge is a common breast symptom, divided into physiological and pathological. Physiological: lactation in pregnancy/lactation, bilateral discharge from oral contraceptives/sedatives, or small postmenopausal discharge. Pathological: non-physiological spontaneous discharge from one or more ducts, unrelated to pregnancy/lactation, intermittent or persistent for months to years. Nipple discharge mainly means pathological.
Cystic mass; stabbing breast pain; nipple retraction; nodule; cystic hyperplasia
Spontaneous nipple discharge outside pregnancy/lactation; true nipple discharge suggests ductal lesion, needs evaluation.
Etiologic workup, duct excision when indicated
Investigate spontaneous discharge promptly.
It is recommended to visit the gynecology department; before the visit you may first book an appointment and connect with experts through this platform.
