Vulvitis

Normally vaginal discharge is acidic (cervical mucus alkaline), suppressing pathogens; inflammation is uncommon. When pH changes or special pathogens invade, inflammation results. Vulvitis is inflammation of the vulva from pathogens or irritation; it may be isolated but more often coexists with vaginitis, urinary, anorectal or systemic disease. Symptoms: vulvar itching, pain, burning, swelling, rash, erosion, ulcer.

Pathogen invasion or irritation disrupting the acidic vaginal environment.

Treatment

Etiologic topical medication, keep dry

Prevention

Vulvar hygiene, loose cotton underwear.
