Uterine hypertrophy means uniform enlargement of the uterus; the basic change is in myometrial smooth muscle and vessel walls. The uterus is uniformly enlarged with myometrium thickened to 2.5-3.2 cm, cut surface gray-white or pink, harder, fibrous bundles woven, arteries/veins dilated with elastic fiber proliferation around new vessels, with varying uterine bleeding. Main symptom is increased discharge; connective-tissue proliferation and inflammation spread along the cervix/sacrouterine ligament causing lumbosacral or perineal pain.
