A vaginal cyst is the commonest benign vaginal tumor. The normal vagina has no glands, but isolated ectopic crypts may occur, forming retention cysts filled with fluid; they are not neoplastic or hyperplastic. Types: epithelial inclusion cyst (acquired) and embryonic remnant cyst (congenital). The epithelium usually derives from embryonic Mullerian duct, mesonephric duct and urogenital sinus.
Cyst; dysuria; labial hypertrophy; polyuria
Epithelial inclusion cysts form when vaginal mucosa is injured in delivery or sutured deep into the vaginal wall.
