Fissured Tongue

Fissured tongue (scrotal tongue) is benign condition with deep grooves/fissures on dorsal tongue, often associated with geographic tongue or Down syndrome, usually asymptomatic but may trap food causing irritation. Treatment: oral hygiene with tongue brushing/irrigator to clean fissures; avoid irritants; treat secondary Candida if present; observe; reassurance; biopsy if suspicious focal lesion.
