Midline base-of-tongue mass; dysphagia; bleeding; airway; hypothyroidism; no neck thyroid on exam

Causes

Ectopic thyroid; failure of descent; only functioning thyroid tissue.

Treatment

Thyroxine suppression; radioiodine; surgery only if airway/dysphagia; biopsy; do not remove without replacement
