Chalazion is a chronic granulomatous inflammation of a meibomian (tarsal) gland, presenting as a painless firm nodule in the eyelid. It is due to obstruction of the gland with lipogranuloma formation. Treatment: warm compresses and lid hygiene for small lesions; incision and curettage or intralesional steroid injection for persistent/large ones; differentiate from malignancy in older/recurrent lesions.
Painless firm eyelid nodule; lid swelling; recurrent in elderly needs malignancy exclusion
Meibomian-gland duct obstruction with lipid extravasation induces a lipogranuloma.
Warm compresses/lid hygiene; incision curettage or intralesional steroid if persistent
Lid hygiene; treat blepharitis.
It is recommended to visit the Ophthalmology department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
