Cicatricial Entropion

Cicatricial entropion is inward turning of the eyelid margin due to scarring of the tarsal conjunctiva (from trachoma/chemical burns/ocular cicatricial pemphigoid). The lashes rub on the cornea causing irritation/abrasion. Treatment: surgical correction to evert the lid margin; lubrication/protect cornea; treat underlying conjunctival disease.

Common Symptoms

In-turned lid margin; lashes rubbing cornea; irritation/foreign-body sensation; history of trachoma/scarring

Causes and Pathogenesis

Tarsal conjunctival scarring contracts and turns the lid margin inward.

Treatment

Surgical correction; lubricate/protect cornea; treat underlying conjunctival disease

Preventive Measures

Treat trachoma/conjunctival disease early.
