Open-angle glaucoma is chronic progressive optic neuropathy with an open anterior-chamber angle, producing optic-disc cupping and peripheral field loss, with raised or normal IOP. It is usually asymptomatic until advanced. Treatment: lower IOP with topical hypotensive agents (prostaglandin analogs first-line), selective laser trabeculoplasty, or filtration surgery (trabeculectomy/MIGS) as needed; set target pressure by stage.
Asymptomatic until advanced; peripheral field loss; optic-disc cupping; open angle
Trabecular outflow resistance (or IOP-independent susceptibility) causes optic-nerve axonal loss.
IOP lowering: topical prostaglandin analogs, SLT, trabeculectomy/MIGS; target by stage
Screen IOP/disc/field; family history.
It is recommended to visit the Ophthalmology department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
