Chronic angle-closure glaucoma is gradual synechial closure of the anterior-chamber angle, producing optic-disc cupping and visual-field loss without dramatic acute attacks. It is common in hyperopic older Asians. Treatment: laser peripheral iridotomy to relieve pupillary block; clear the lens (cataract extraction) in phacomorphic cases; topical hypotensives for residual IOP; filtration surgery if uncontrolled.
Asymptomatic until field loss; cupping; closed/synechial angle; hyperopic elderly
Gradual appositional/synechial closure of the angle reduces outflow, raising IOP and damaging the optic nerve.
Laser peripheral iridotomy; cataract extraction; topical hypotensives; filtration if uncontrolled
Screen narrow angles; early PI.
It is recommended to visit the Ophthalmology department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
