Sigmoid-sinus thrombophlebitis is septic thrombosis of the sigmoid dural sinus, a complication of otitis media/mastoiditis. Clinical: fever, headache, ear pain/discharge, and sometimes signs of raised intracranial pressure or cranial-nerve palsies. Diagnosis: CT/MRI venography. Treatment: IV antibiotics and urgent ENT source control (mastoidectomy); anticoagulation is controversial and considered on case basis.
