Laryngitis

Laryngitis is inflammation of the larynx/vocal cords, either acute (viral/voice overuse) or chronic (GERD/smoking/allergy/voice abuse). Clinical: hoarseness, aphonia, throat irritation, cough. Treatment: voice rest; hydration; humidification; avoid irritants; treat GERD (PPI/lifestyle); voice therapy; antibiotics only if bacterial (rare); systemic/intralesional steroids for selected; ENT laryngoscopy if chronic/recurrent.
