Rhinitis

Rhinitis is inflammation of the nasal mucosa, either acute (viral/allergic) or chronic (allergic/nonallergic/atrophic/drug-induced), presenting with nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, sneezing, and pruritus. Treatment: identify type (allergic vs nonallergic); allergen avoidance; oral/intranasal antihistamines; intranasal corticosteroids; saline irrigation; avoid decongestant overuse; treat atrophic/drug-induced; surgery for structural (deviated septum/turbinate hypertrophy) if refractory.
