This is the commonest type of ectopic pregnancy: the ovum is fertilized in the ampulla but the zygote is blocked and implants/develops in the tube. Ampullary commonest (50%-70%), isthmic next (30%-40%), fimbrial/interstitial rarest (1%-2). Commonest cause is tubal inflammation/infection causing morphologic change, ciliary defect and reduced peristalsis, impairing zygote migration and causing tubal pregnancy.
