The pathology of disease

Strong acid poisoning is ingestion/corrosive acid injury (sulfuric/hydrochloric); GI burns; stricture; emergency; do not induce emesis.

Symptoms

Oropharyngeal burns; chest/abdominal pain; drooling; dysphagia; hematemesis; airway edema

Causes

Accidental/suicidal ingestion of corrosive acid; household cleaner.

Treatment

Airway; do NOT induce emesis/lavage; dilute with water; endoscopy; supportive; surgery for perforation
