Pemphigus

Pemphigus is group of autoimmune intraepidermal blistering diseases (vulgaris/foliaceus/paraneoplastic/IgA), presenting with flaccid bullae/erosions on skin/mucosa. Treatment: systemic corticosteroids (prednisone); steroid-sparing immunosuppressants (azathioprine/mycophenolate mofetil); rituximab (first-line); IVIG; wound care; oral care; infection prevention; monitor steroid complications; evaluate underlying neoplasm if paraneoplastic; follow-up dermatology.

Flaccid bullae/erosions; skin/mucosa; autoimmune

Causes and Pathogenesis

Anti-desmoglein autoantibodies cause acantholysis and intraepidermal blisters.

Treatment

Steroids; azathioprine/mycophenolate; rituximab; wound care

Early diagnosis; infection prevention; monitor drug side effects.
