Idiopathic Guttate Hypomelanosis

Idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis (leukoderma senile) is multiple small 2-5 mm white macules on sun-exposed shins/forearms in elderly, benign, from sun damage. Treatment: reassurance; sun protection; topical retinoids (tretinoin); bleaching agents; cryotherapy/laser ablation for cosmetic; distinguish from vitiligo/tinea versicolor/postinflammatory hypopigmentation; follow-up dermatology.

Causes and Pathogenesis

Chronic sun damage causes focal melanocyte loss and small white macules.

Treatment
