Nodular fasciitis

皮肤科

Common symptoms

部位不定的疼痛、浅筋膜炎、肩背部肌肉痛、结节、筋膜疼痛、胀痛、灰白色结节

The pathology of disease

Nodular fasciitis is a rapidly growing, self-limiting nodular fibroblastic proliferative lesion of the superficial fascia; it is reactive and self-limiting, also called pseudosarcomatous fasciitis, and is a non-neoplastic lesion. It presents as a firm solitary nodule, sometimes tender, located in the deep fascia and often extending into the subcutaneous tissue. It occurs equally in both sexes, with an average age of onset of 40 years. Because nodular fasciitis is a non-neoplastic lesion, Western treatment is mainly surgical excision, with a low recurrence rate not exceeding 1~2%, and a few patients resolve spontaneously.

Common Symptoms

Pain of undefined location; superficial fasciitis; shoulder and back muscle pain; nodule; fascial pain; distending pain; gray-white nodule

Causes

Acute or chronic injury and strain of the muscles, ligaments and joint capsules of the shoulder, neck and lower back are the basic causes. Trauma impairs muscle and blood flow, with poor capillary and microcirculation, leading to the disease. Birth trauma is a causative factor of cranial fasciitis. Nodular fasciitis refers to an aseptic inflammatory reaction of muscle and fascia; when the body is stimulated by adverse external factors such as wind-cold invasion, fatigue or improper sleeping posture, it can trigger an acute attack; because it was not thoroughly treated in the acute phase it becomes chronic, or because the patient is repeatedly subjected to adverse stimuli such as strain and wind-cold, chronic muscle pain, soreness and weakness can recur persistently or intermittently.

Treatment

Surgery, traditional Chinese medicine, supportive treatment, rehabilitation therapy

Prevention

1. People who sit at a desk for long periods should rest regularly to relieve tense back muscles; reduce heavy foot exercise such as jumping, running and long walks. 2. Maintain good sitting posture and change posture after sitting for an hour. 3. Avoid soft beds; choose a hard bed. 4. Guard against cold and dampness; soak the feet in warm water every night to promote local circulation. 5. Actively strengthen back muscle exercise; the elderly should choose softer shoes such as casual shoes and replace worn shoes. 6. Acute lumbar sprain should be actively treated with rest to prevent it becoming chronic. 7. Warm up before sports or strenuous activity. 8. Prevent overwork; like a machine, excessive running or overload will inevitably damage parts. The lower back is the center of body movement, so overwork inevitably causes injury and back pain; balance work and rest. 9. Watch weight; obesity adds extra burden to the lower back, especially in middle-aged people and postpartum women, so dieting and exercise are necessary. 10. Moderate sexual activity; the lower back is the residence of the kidneys, and excessive sexual activity harms the kidneys, causing deficiency and back pain.
