Trichoepithelioma, also called cystic adenoid epithelioma or multiple benign cystic epithelioma, is a benign tumor arising from hair follicles. Multiple cases are inherited as autosomal dominant; solitary cases have no family history. Conventionally cystic adenoid epithelioma refers to multiple lesions, while trichoepithelioma may be solitary or multiple. It is thought to arise from pluripotent basal cells with tendency toward hair differentiation.
