Demodicosis (follicle mite disease) = Demodex in sebaceous glands/hair follicles; host-specific; alopecia/dermatitis/sebaceous folliculitis.

Acneiform rash; pustule

Causes and Pathogenesis

(1) Etiology: chronic inflammation by Demodex in hair follicles/sebaceous glands. (2) Pathogenesis: pathogenicity unclear; host individual variation determines clinical expression.

Treatment

Drug therapy, supportive therapy

Preventive Measures

Ventilate/dry living spaces/grain; sun exposure; acaricides; 5% naphthol sulfur ointment/scabies liniment/benzyl benzoate.
