Fibrosarcoma

Fibrosarcoma is a mesenchymal malignancy of connective tissue/muscle; occurs in skin/subcutaneous/periosteum/long bone ends. Rapid growth with late necrosis/hemorrhage, gray-red fish-flesh cut. Osteosarcoma favors young adults. May cause pathologic fracture; early hematogenous metastasis.

Common Symptoms

Soft hemispherical lateral leg mass; flank mass; smooth round ankle mass; fascia pain

Causes

Radiation: post-radiation fibromatosis in abdominal fields may progress to fibrosarcoma. Malignant transformation of benign fibromatosis (palmar/plantar/desmoid-type). Congenital/genetic factors; congenital infantile fibrosarcoma common, cured by local excision.

Treatment

Supportive care; rehabilitation

Prevention

Avoid infection/radiation/toxins/immunosuppressants; exercise; personal/environmental hygiene.
