Chordoma is a locally invasive/malignant extradural tumor of clivus/sacrococcygeal region from embryonic notochord remnants. Age 50-60; slow-growing (symptoms after 5+ years); rarely metastasizes (late), but locally destructive and recurrent. Malignant.
Polyp; cord compression; lower abdominal pain; ICP; calcification; sciatica; constipation; palatal perforation; paraplegia; sclerosis
Congenital notochord remnants; post-infectious/post-vaccine myelitis; genetics. Types: classic vs chondroid. Gross: smooth nodule, gray-white translucent jelly-like, mucoid, dark red with hemorrhage; lobulated. Micro: small cuboidal/round/polygonal cells with abundant eosinophilic vacuolated cytoplasm ("physaliphorous cells"); cords/irregular acini with mucin.
Surgery; supportive care
Metastasis rare (~10 years after onset); sacrococcygeal more metastatic; chondroid variant better prognosis.
It is recommended to visit the oncological surgery department; before the visit you may first book an appointment and connect with experts through this platform.
