Neurofibrosarcoma is rare; 5-10% of malignant soft tissue tumors. Young/middle-aged; head/neck/buttocks/extremities/retroperitoneum; also back/abdominal wall/mediastinum. Painless mass, slow; some have pain first then mass/nerve deficit. 40% have neurofibromatosis.
Cystic mass; persistent pain
Arises from large proximal trunk nerves / nerve sheath / malignant change of neurofibroma. Large irregular hyperchromatic nuclei, tumor giant cells, mitoses; sparse lymphocytic infiltrate.
Supportive care; rehabilitation; surgery
Exercise; avoid stress; diet; quit smoking; early treatment.
