Peritoneal Mesothelioma

Peritoneal mesothelioma is a primary tumor of peritoneal epithelium and mesothelial tissue. Pathologically: adenomatoid mesothelioma, cystic mesothelioma, malignant mesothelioma; first two are benign. Clinical: abdominal pain, ascites, distension, abdominal mass. Peritoneal mesothelioma = ~20% of all mesotheliomas.

Causes and Pathogenesis

Long-term diet/lifestyle causes acidic body constitution, lowered organ function; acid deposition in peritoneum causes local lesion. Acidic tissue fluid lowers cell oxygenation, activity, metabolism; at 65% of normal, normal cells die but mutated cells survive and express tumor phenotype, proliferating into real tumors. Also: acid body enables other tissue cancers; reduced peritoneum mesothelial tissue resistance allows cancer cells in.

Preventive Measures

Arises from peritoneal epithelium/mesothelium; asbestos dust is causative; some viruses may cause mesothelioma. Prevent occupational diseases (textile, construction); improve working environment; source prevention.
