Growth-Hormone Deficiency

内分泌科

Common symptoms

声调似小孩、隐睾、骨骺提前闭合、无胡须、抑郁、糖类皮质激素分泌过少、闭经

The pathology of disease

Growth-hormone (GH) deficiency is insufficient GH secretion from pituitary/hypothalamic disease (pituitary tumor/surgery/radiation, Sheehan, genetic). In children: growth retardation, short stature, cherubic facies, delayed dentition. In adults: reduced exercise capacity, central adiposity, asthenia, adverse lipid profile, reduced quality of life. Diagnosis by GH stimulation tests (insulin-tolerance test, arginine). Treatment: recombinant human GH replacement.

Common Symptoms

Short stature (children); growth delay; central adiposity; low energy; reduced exercise capacity; asthenia

Causes and Pathogenesis

Pituitary/hypothalamic damage (tumor, surgery, radiation, Sheehan, genetic) reduces GH secretion, impairing IGF-1 production and linear growth/anabolism.

Treatment

Recombinant human GH subcutaneous; titrate by IGF-1; monitor bone age, glucose, adverse effects

Preventive Measures

Early pediatric growth monitoring; pituitary follow-up; treat underlying lesion.

Department to Visit

It is recommended to visit the Endocrinology department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
