Adrenomedullary hyperplasia is hyperplasia of adrenal-medullary chromaffin cells causing catecholamine excess, clinically mimicking pheochromocytoma. It is often bilateral and associated with MEN2 syndromes; imaging shows thickened medulla without a discrete mass. Symptoms: paroxysmal hypertension, headache, sweating, palpitations. Management: alpha-blockade then surgical resection (unilateral/bilateral); genetic screening.
Paroxysmal hypertension; headache; sweating; palpitations; similar to pheochromocytoma
Chromaffin-cell hyperplasia (often RET-mutation associated) increases catecholamine production and release.
Alpha-adrenergic blockade; surgical resection; screen for MEN2-associated medullary thyroid carcinoma
Genetic screening; family evaluation; careful BP monitoring.
It is recommended to visit the Endocrinology department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
