Silicosis is interstitial pulmonary fibrosis from inhalation of crystalline silica dust (mining/sandblasting/stone cutting), presenting with progressive dyspnea, cough, upper-lobe nodular opacities, eggshell calcification of hilar nodes, and risk of TB/lung cancer. Types: acute, accelerated, chronic. Treatment: avoid further exposure; supportive care; oxygen for hypoxemia; pulmonary rehab; treat TB (high risk); treat infection/complications; surveillance for lung cancer; no proven antifibrotic; smoking cessation.
