Pulmonary pleural amebiasis is purulent lung/pleural inflammation from Entamoeba histolytica. Hepatic origin: right lower lung; hematogenous: bilateral. Second most common extraintestinal amebiasis after liver.
Night sweats; diarrhea; fatigue; fever with cough; hemoptysis
E. histolytica trophozoites/cysts; 90% asymptomatic, 10% invasive. Cysts survive 2 weeks feces/5 weeks water; excyst in small bowel; large trophozoites invade.
Anti-amebic drugs; supportive care; drainage
Food/water hygiene; treat carriers.
